CELEBRATED 5 YEARS IN 2024
DIRECTOR OF SERVICES
Colette Peterson
What did you do before you were a Miner?
+ I graduated from St. Cloud State University with a degree in Mass Communications: Broadcast Journalism, which led me to my first job at KSTP-TV 5 Eyewitness News in the Twin Cities. I worked at the assignment desk managing breaking news requests, gathering information for evening newscasts and assisting reporters, producers and photographers with coverage needs. It was fast-paced and exciting, which is why I love that my role still allows me to work closely with the media!
Share your favorite client memory.
+ I love any opportunity to support a client’s live interview by going to the station with them. There’s something about having that prep time together, helping set up any props and watching them nail their key messages while standing off-camera and taking some photos for social media so they can leverage the appearance after.
What would you tell your 20-year-old self?
+ Be patient and present! You have your whole career ahead of you. Now is the time to explore, take on new challenges and see what fits your skillset and lifestyle. The best is yet to come.
If you could live through one year of your life again, which year would it be and why?
+ In 2016, my now-husband was able to play professional football in Remscheid, Germany for 6 months, and I was lucky enough to quit my job and join him for 4 months. We traveled all over Europe, visited my family in France (where my mom was born and raised!) and checked 12 countries off the bucket list. To be so carefree, trying new food, visiting historic sites and enjoying the sunshine in a new place every week again would be wonderful. When we got back to Minnesota, we bought our first home, and I started my job at KSTP. It was a banner year for us!
What’s your favorite way to relax and recharge?
+ Spending time outside. Whether it’s a walk with the dogs and my son on the nature trails around my house or a trip to hike through a new National Park, nothing takes my mind off the world better than simply moving my body in nature.
