Frequently Asked Questions

What does a PR agency do?

A public relations agency builds your reputation, strengthens trust and increases visibility with your target audiences. Through media relations, thought leadership, strategic social media, executive visibility and crisis communication support, a PR agency serves as a strategic partner.

PR also influences how your brand appears in AI-driven and generative search results. Earned media, third-party mentions and consistent thought leadership shape how search engines and AI tools surface information about you and your organization.

Media Minefield is a national award-winning public relations and social media agency focused on growing your business and building brand awareness with a modern, customized approach.

We help businesses and executives build authority through earned media interviews, thought leadership articles, social media strategy, award submissions and strategic visibility aligned with their professional and business goals. We also provide media training, social media training and crisis training to help leaders show up confidently and consistently.

How much does it cost to hire a PR agency?

Our services start at $3,500 per month, varying based on scope, goals and support needed. We also offer one-time trainings for organizations seeking targeted support without an ongoing engagement. We discuss pricing transparently during an initial strategy call and recommend a customized approach aligned with your objectives.

We primarily work on a retainer basis to support consistent strategy, outreach and momentum. Select project-based campaigns may be appropriate depending on your goals and timeline, and may impact the cost.

We do not lock clients into long-term contracts. Partnerships begin with a six-month minimum commitment to allow time for strategy execution, relationship building and measurable results. Following this initial term, the partnership moves to a month-to-month agreement with a 30-day notice period to discontinue services.

Is hiring a PR agency worth it?

Public relations is most effective for organizations and individuals with a clear and unique point of view, expertise or story to tell. It works especially well for executives, founders, professional services firms and brands where trust directly influences buying decisions.

PR is a long-term reputation strategy, not a quick fix. When executed strategically, it builds third-party credibility, strengthens visibility and compounds measurable business impact over time.

It also plays a critical role in modern discoverability. Search engines and AI tools increasingly pull from earned media, expert commentary and authoritative content when shaping results and AI-generated answers, often referred to as Generative Engine Optimization or GEO.

Beyond visibility, PR supports measurable business outcomes. It accelerates trust with your ideal buyer before you ever speak to them. When prospects see credible media coverage, thought leadership, an active social media presence and third-party validation, conversations start warmer and sales cycles often shorten. Marketing receives more impactful content and sales teams gain proof points that reinforce value.

The return on PR is not just impressions. It is influence, reputation and momentum that drive long-term growth.

How long does PR take to work?

Earned media opportunities often appear within 30–60 days of beginning our work together. Meaningful momentum typically builds over three to six months, depending on your story, the news cycle and the media market.

Our partnerships begin with a thorough, yet efficient onboarding, including a collaborative Message Session to align on your story, audience, focus areas and goals. We then create a Message Map that translates your key messages into clear, consistent media and AI-friendly soundbites.

This foundation powers our trademarked PR process: We discover your story and goals, define a clear message and strategy and consistently deliver results.

Social media clients also receive a customized content plan, including process and communication goals. This is delivered within one week of kickoff, followed by the first content calendar one week later, allowing us to start posting within two to three weeks after launch.

All onboarding is completed within the first month.

What industries do you specialize in?

Our team of trained journalists and social media experts has deep experience in health care, medtech, financial services, banking, legal and professional services.

We work with C-suite executives, founders and business leaders whose visibility and reputation directly influence company growth. We also support clients in regulated industries and collaborate closely with internal legal and compliance teams to ensure messaging is accurate and aligned with regulations.

While these are our core sectors, working with clients across other industries is not new for us. We partner with organizations across a wide range of fields, helping companies tell their story, build trust and strengthen their reputation.

If your company has a story to tell and a reputation to build, we can help.

How do you measure PR success and report results?

Success is about impact, not volume. We measure PR success based on the quality of placements, audience reach, message alignment and progress toward your business or visibility goals.

Clients receive regular reporting on earned media performance, including interviews secured, audience reach, message alignment and overall visibility growth. Since 2010, Media Minefield has maintained a 100% success rate in securing earned media interviews for clients.

Social media metrics include follower growth, impressions, and engagement, along with insights into which content resonates and how the strategy will evolve to improve results. We connect results back to broader business objectives to show clear momentum.

When should a company hire a PR firm?

A company should hire a PR firm when it is ready to increase visibility, credibility and intentional reputation management — during a period of growth, ahead of major announcements, expanding into new markets, navigating a crisis or when leadership wants to build industry authority.

PR also impacts long-term discoverability. AI-powered search tools pull from credible earned media coverage, expert commentary and authoritative thought leadership content when generating answers. If your company is not appearing in trusted third-party sources, it is less likely to appear in those results.

Public relations also impacts recruiting. Future employees, partners, investors and clients research leadership teams on LinkedIn and search for company credibility before making decisions. Strategic PR ensures what they find reflects your expertise and impact.

Why should I hire a PR firm instead of someone in-house?

A PR firm brings a team of experts and broader industry insight without the cost of building an external communications department or adding on to your existing team. We provide established media relationships, social media expertise, broader industry insight, strategic messaging and crisis support.

An external team also provides unbiased and outside perspectives. Firms that work across industries can identify trends, uncover fresh story angles and help your expertise stand out — something industry-specific firms often miss with predictable, recycled storylines and outlets.

We strengthen internal teams rather than replace them. We often partner with marketing and communications professionals to align messaging, support business goals and extend capacity.

What’s the difference between PR and marketing or advertising?

Public relations shapes how others perceive your brand through earning media coverage, thought leadership and third-party credibility. Earned media means coverage is secured because your story is newsworthy — not paid for. PR also extends to social media, where strategic content and engagement amplify your message and strengthen your online reputation.

Marketing is the overarching strategy to drive sales. It creates awareness and drives customer engagement through strategic campaigns.

Advertising uses paid opportunities to get in front of specific audiences for quick visibility.

Third-party endorsements build trust that lasts far longer than paid campaigns. Ideally, all three work together to maximize brand awareness and authority.

Who will work on our account?

You will have a dedicated account team of senior strategists and communications professionals who are actively involved in your work — not just overseeing it. Our team includes specialized roles such as Media Coach and Social Media Coach, reflecting our expertise in both earned media and executive social media strategy.

These experts develop your strategy, pitch media opportunities, prepare you for interviews and guide your messaging and social media presence. Teams are assigned based on your goals and deliverables, and regular strategy calls ensure ongoing alignment, ideas and opportunities.

We have regular strategy calls with your team to stay in communication and provide monthly reporting to ensure our work impacts your goals.

What is required from me as a client?

PR is a partnership. While we act as an extension or partner to your team, leading strategy, messaging and media outreach, your engagement is essential to success.

Our onboarding process is designed to quickly get to know you, your business and your priorities. We aim to quickly understand your expertise, key stories, target audiences and goals so we can start putting your PR strategy into action right away.

Ongoing involvement typically includes interview availability, monthly or bi-weekly strategy calls, timely feedback, weekly approval of social media content and participation in social media content creation, such as photos, videos and behind-the-scenes moments.

The most successful partnerships involve leaders who are responsive, open to strategic guidance and committed to consistent visibility.

How does PR impact AI search visibility?

AI-powered search engines and large language models rely on trusted third-party sources. Earned media coverage, expert commentary and authoritative thought leadership increase the likelihood that your brand and leadership are cited in AI-generated answers. This also helps ensure LLMs have correct, up-to-date information about your brand and reputation.

Consistent media coverage and executive thought leadership content ensure your expertise is visible where credibility matters most.

Do you handle crisis communications?

Yes. Whether you’re facing negative media coverage, public backlash on social media or an internal issue that could become public, we can help.

Nearly every business will experience a crisis at some point, and a single misstep can cause lasting reputational damage. We have deep expertise in crisis communication and guide you through the situation quickly, strategically and confidently. Our team develops clear messaging, prepares spokespeople, manages media inquiries and social media and oversees real-time communication to protect the trust and credibility you’ve built.

We also offer custom proactive crisis training to equip your team with best practices for responding effectively when a crisis arises. Training includes practices to address the ever-changing crisis landscape driven by the rise of AI, including misinformation, bots and deepfakes.

What makes a story newsworthy?

A story is newsworthy when it is relevant, educational or inspirational. Journalists look for fresh perspectives, credible expertise and stories that help audiences better understand trends, challenges or opportunities.

We identify angles within our clients’ expertise that align with current media demand, making it easier to secure coverage that builds authority.

What is thought leadership in PR?

Thought leadership positions a leader or organization as a trusted expert in their industry. Rather than promoting products or services, it focuses on sharing a professional’s valuable insights, perspectives and expertise that help audiences better understand important issues and trends.

Through earned media interviews, articles, blogs, awards and executive visibility on social media, thought leadership builds credibility, strengthens reputation and positions you as a go-to source for journalists, clients and industry peers. Thought leadership often opens the door to speaking engagements.
