SOCIAL MEDIA COACH

Maria Schubert

What did you do before you were a Miner?

+ I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma and headed north to Iowa where I managed social media pages and a YouTube channel for an animal health company. From there, I moved to South Dakota to join a local agency specializing in health care, education and nonprofit clients — industries I’m passionate about. After a layoff (and a little soul-searching), I packed up my life — and my pets — and moved to Minnesota to join Media Minefield!

Share your favorite client memory.

+ One of my very first clients knew social media was important for his business, but wasn’t quite sure where to start. We worked together to find his voice and, not long after, one of his posts went a little viral within his niche community! The best part? It was completely authentic to him. The message genuinely resonated with his audience, and seeing his excitement — and the real impact it had — was incredibly rewarding.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

+ If you’re struggling to say kind things about yourself, imagine those words coming from the person you love most. You’ll listen, and eventually you’ll believe what they’re saying. Over time, that voice becomes your own.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

+ Jolene by Dolly Parton is a go-to karaoke song for me. But truthfully? I love karaoke, so I’m game to sing just about anything. Whether it’s a classic power ballad or a guilty pleasure pop hit, I’m grabbing the mic!

If you were to write a book, what would the title be?

+ Still Standing (Mostly Upright): Notes from a Life with Highs, Lows and a Lot of Heart. I’ve lived through more than a few tough chapters — personally and mentally — but I’m still here, showing up with compassion, humor and a whole lot of grit!

What’s a hobby you’ve always wanted to try but never have?

+ I’ve always wanted to try sailing. I love being on the water — especially kayaking — so it feels like the next logical step. There’s just something about catching the wind and heading into open water that sounds both peaceful and a little adventurous!
