What did you do before you were a Miner?

I was a newspaper editor in southern Minnesota. Before that, I worked as a journalist in Sioux Falls, SD and Duluth and Edina, MN, but I began my career as a reporter in small towns in rural Minnesota. I was also lucky enough to intern in political and international news in Boston and Washington, D.C.

If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be?

I would be sitting on the shore of Lake Superior at sunset. My favorite activity on a day of calm weather in Duluth is to watch the lake waves as the pink sky reflects on the water.

What do you miss about working in the news industry?

I miss the random experiences I had as a journalist, like crash landing in a hot air balloon on a golf course in a news story gone awry.

What do you do for fun?

You can usually find me hiking in state parks or on the Superior Hiking Trail; I enjoy camping in state parks too.

What is your favorite quote?

“There’s always a sunrise and always a sunset and it’s up to you to choose to be there for it. Put yourself in the way of beauty.” – Cheryl Strayed
